Thanks to an evolution process , La Comer has managed to develop in the industry of supermarkets in Mexico with different concepts of stores. Since January 1, 2016, La Comer reaffirms this growth with a total of 54 stores in four different formats: Sumesa, La Comer, Fresko and City Market, each designed to meet specific needs to certain group of customers. The majority of the units, focused on the upper and middle class sectors, are located in Mexico City\u2019s metropolitan area and in Central Mexico. All its stores intend to have a different personality and a striking superiority through its services, products and facilities.<\/p>\n
After several years of transformation and growth under the name of Controladora Comercial Mexicana S.A.B. de C.V., (CCM), we have adopted today the name of La Comer S.A.B. de C.V. through which we perform our operations that will be key to write again a successful history.<\/p>\n
Mr. Antonino Gonz\u00e1lez and his son, Mr. Carlos Gonz\u00e1lez Nova, founded the company back in 1930. They established the first store in Mexico City to market textiles. In 1944, the company was incorporated as a limited partnership and its name changed to Antonino Gonz\u00e1lez e Hijo. They finally achieved the first Comercial Mexicana supermarket and store in 1962, where general merchandise was also sold.<\/p>\n
Twenty similar stores were opened in the 1970s. The Company\u2019s expansion continued with the opening of 51 stores in the next decade, including the acquisition of the retail chain Sumesa; the start of operations of the first California restaurant and Bodega store. In the 1990s, CCM established a 50% \u2013 50% joint venture with Costco Wholesale Corporation, representing the first step in the expansion of membership warehouse clubs in the country under the Costco de Mexico partnership. Similarly, the Mega brand was introduced in that decade.<\/p>\n
In 1991, Comercial Mexicana shares began to trade publicly on the Mexican Stock Exchange. By the time, the Company was focused on leasing properties and real estate, as well as investing in companies involved in the purchase, sale and distribution of groceries and general merchandise in Mexico.<\/p>\n
The Company decided to launch the City Market and Alprecio stores after identifying new customer needs and trends in the market. Similarly, the Fresko format is created and opened its first unit in 2009.<\/p>\n
On June 14, 2012, the Company decided to sell the economic interest of 50% that it held in Costco de M\u00e9xico to Costco Wholesale Corporation. At the time the transaction took place, 32 stores integrated the operation of the membership warehouse clubs in the Mexican market. Also, the Company formalized a purchase agreement with Grupo Gigante S.A.B. de C.V. on August 21, 2014 by which the latter acquired 46 California and seven Beer Factory restaurants.<\/p>\n
In 2015, the Company decided to sell 143 hypermarkets and stores servicing the medium-low income market to Organizaci\u00f3n Soriana, S.A.B. de C.V.<\/p>\n
After completing this phase in its evolution, the Company reinvents itself in order to operate under the new format name \u201cLa Comer\u201d jointly with the operation of the well known City Market and Fresko store formats.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
